Oshkosh 2017

As a long time Aviation enthusiast, a trip to Air Venture at Oshkosh, Wisconsin has been on my “to do” list for some time.  Since I have family not too far from Oshkosh, this was the perfect time of the year to visit!  I didn’t get a lot of time but will be returning soon.  Here are a couple of photos I took during my short visit. You can see a few more in my Aviation Gallery!

Something Different

I haven’t posted anything quite like this before.  This was taken in the basement of the house, in the dark, using a small flashlight with a diffuser to light the subject. Lots of fun and easy to set up.  It was a great way to spend an evening playing with light.

Springtime Fun in the Sun

This spring I was invited to join some fellow aviators on a quick journey to the Sun N Fun Fly-in down in Lakeland Florida. A long drive and quick stop at the campground left us ready to go!  There was a lot to see but one of the highlights was the shear number of P-51 Mustangs that were attending.  I was able to grab this photo of the P-51 “Quicksilver” as pilot Scott “Scooter” Yoak taxied to the ramp area.  What a gorgeous aircraft!

It’s been a while….

Obviously I haven’t been keeping the blog up very well. I stepped away for a spell but with the beginning of the new year I am back, motivated and ready to give it some fresh “stuff”.

So after being nudged by some fellow photographers to enter a juried competition I finally framed up a few images and submitted them. Well surprise, surprise, all three of my submissions were accepted into the exhibition! Now all we have to do is wait patiently to see how they placed.

A couple of these yo may have seen earlier.  I made a few subtile changes in brightness and contrast to make them a bit more lively. I hope it works. What’s your favorite?

Seen Better Days

We were out for a ride the other day to check out some spring scenery. On the way back we passed a sign on the freeway that needed a closer look so we took the next exit and doubled back about a half mile or so. On the way to see the sign we passed and old, seems to be defunct motel. The access road also happens to be the old “Mother Road” known as Route 66! The motel is close to the Shaw Nature Reserve and was called “Gardenway Motel”. It must have been quite the spot back in the day! Hope you enjoy it!

Fun After Dark

I was recently challenged to do some “night photography”. I had a couple of places in mind but, alas, one was not open that night so no picture to be had there. I tried a couple more shots in the area but nothing really stood out. On the way home, we happened by a local hot rod shop and took this thru the closed doors.20160227-_DSC7536-Edit-2 projected

I find all of the “stuff” in the garage to be interesting.

Something Different

I was working on an image a few days ago and decided to try something a bit different. This is a shot of an old WW II (AT-6) trainer that I had more or less converted to a line drawing. Somehow, that day it seemed to be calling for a splash of color!colorful T6-2_edited-2

Out for a Monday Drive

Well the New Year is already well underway and I finally made it out to our local nature reserve. It was a bit breezy but as we drove into the reserve we spotted a large bird flying by. A few minutes later we spotted it again in a tree just as it was taking off.  Eventually we saw it land in a tree very close to the road so I stopped and got a few shots of a very nice Red Tailed hawk!5138-Red Tailed Hawk
